Meet The FMC Science Team

James E Cain, MD, FAAFP, CEO, and PI

Dr. James CainJames Cain, MD, is a board-certified family physician who has practiced in Lampasas and Copperas Cove for the past 15 years. He serves as principal investigator at FMC Science.

Dr. Cain completed his CITI-GCP, IATA, NIH Protection of Human Subjects, OSHA, and HIPAA training in the fall of 2014. Dr. Cain has special interests in studies relating to diabetes, arthritis, dermatology, psychiatry, and asthma/COPD.

He graduated from the prestigious UT Memorial Hermann Southwest Family Medicine Fellowship and Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Cain has had the distinction of working with two icons of American medicine, world-renowned heart surgeon Denton Cooley (Dr. Cain did data entry for many of Dr. Cooley’s investigational devices and drug studies), and TV celebrity Dr. “Red” Duke.

Dr. Cain has served as chief of staff of Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas and is a member of the Executive and Credentialing Committee of Metroplex Hospital in Killeen.

He is best known as the beguiling master of ceremonies of the Little Miss Spring Ho contest, one of the highlights of the nationally prominent Spring Ho Festival held in Lampasas every summer.

Vanna S Gold, DO & PI

Vanna S Gold is an 8-year physician with a focus in Family Medicine.

Dr. Gold has been working in the AdventHealth/FMCMedicine clinic in Lampasas since 2016.

We are excited to have Dr. Gold on board and welcome her enthusiasm for the benefits of research in the medical environment.

Dr. Gold has been married to Edward Gold since April 2013 and has 2 children, Raleigh and Thatcher. She enjoys spending time with her family, watching baseball, and going for walks.

Johnna Stotts Davis, Sub-Investigator

Mrs. Davis is a native of Lampasas and a 2004 Lampasas High School graduate. She attended the University of Mary Hardin Baylor where she earned her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Upon graduating with her nursing degree, she entered an internship for Labor and Deliver at Scott & White in Temple and after completion went on to become a staff nurse on the OB floor where she worked for Scott & White for 3 years. Mrs. Davis earned her Masters of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner in 2010 from the University of Texas El Paso. She started her career in Research with FMC Science in November of 2016.

Mrs. Davis loves the ability to broaden her knowledge base and play a part in the furthering of medicine through research. She especially appreciates the opportunity for the community she cares about to have access to the opportunities of clinical trials.
